Privacy Policy for StreamScope

StreamScope is a browser extension that detects HLS videos on sites you allow and saves completed, unencrypted ones as MP4 files. Everything happens on your computer.

Site access

StreamScope asks for access to all websites when you install it, because videos load from servers that can't be known in advance. It uses that access only to notice video playlists your browser requests and to save the videos you choose. You can limit it to specific sites in the browser's extension settings.

Video data

To save a video, StreamScope requests the same playlist and media files from the servers the page uses. These requests include your browser cookies for those servers, and the request headers the page itself sent to each server, such as the referrer and any access token the video player adds. Each header is only sent to the server the page sent it to.

Those headers and the video's signed links are kept only in browser memory and in session storage, which the browser clears when it closes. They are removed when you leave the page or close its tab, when you close the video's StreamScope download tab, and when the browser closes. They are never written to disk, logged, or sent anywhere else.

Saved videos are written directly to the file you choose. Nothing is uploaded, and StreamScope has no servers. Encrypted or DRM-protected videos are not saved, and StreamScope never requests their decryption keys.

Playlists shown in a video's stream details are redacted: they contain no link tokens, query strings or header values.

Anonymous usage events

StreamScope sends anonymous usage events to Google Analytics to understand, in general terms, how the extension is used. Events have fixed names and simple values, for example that the extension was installed or updated, that a site was allowed, that a video of a given kind (supported, encrypted, live) was detected, and that a download started, completed, failed with a given error category, or was cancelled.

Events never include web addresses, site names, video titles, file names, page content, error text, or any other data StreamScope processes. They are linked to a randomly generated identifier stored in your browser, not to your name, email, or any other personal information. Google's use of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

Data usage

Usage events are used only to operate, maintain, and improve the extension. Data is not sold, and is not used for advertising.

User control

You can limit StreamScope to specific sites in the browser's extension settings, or uninstall it at any time to stop all data processing.

Changes to this policy

This privacy policy may be updated as StreamScope evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the published policy.
